Etsy still has too many "garage sale" shops.
#I add a facebook badge to my ebay listings how to
I still encourage folks to start an Etsy shop for their handmade goods, especially if they know how to price already.
Happily, my good customers are really wonderful and repeat buyers several times over. I send them to EBay and give a link to a kindly treatise on what handmade really means. (There goes the turnip truck) I have been asked if it doesn't sell by _, they will buy it for (less than the cost of materials, usually). Please do not ever call it vintage, tho, okay?Īs far as having auctions, I get requests every other week for discounts, or could they try one on for fit, or to match a suit, before payment. Those that sell obviously not handmade things get the sales, so if you're importing crap from China, Etsy will welcome you. And it seems like both get sales around the same time, selling vastly different things. My own experience of Etsy is a LOT of seemingly "on/off" for sales. Sales are always dismal in October, by my stats. I qualify for both shops, for length of time on the site (too stupid/lazy to leave). That's the problem with small companies that go public and get shareholders involved, all the money you work so hard for goes in someone elses pocket. That is why I left and glad I am no longer a part of this mess. Copy-Cat, Greedy, "throw you to the curb" attitude", if you dont follow there crazy rules and pay their crazy fees. This was a site that made Home Crafters, Vintage Sellers ( I was one of them) and Artist, a name for themselves and to make an honest living on what they loved to do, now it is anything but that. They should have just left well enough alone. I didnt mind paying fees, as long as they did not drain our pockets and thats what it came to. Sickening!, I refuse to pay fee after fee to please the stock holders and that's just what they want, money to keep their stock holders happy, that "We" the sellers contribute to. I never got recognition for al lmy hard work, yet they would promote the same shops, over and over again, that did'nt make nearly the amount of sales I did, with terrible picture, etc.Ever since they got this new CEO, Josh, from Ebay, (as he worked there too), he copy cats all Ebays things, thinking, it worked for them, it can work for Etsy attitude. I NEVER in all my years of busting ass selling and making Etsy money, did I get a "BADGE FOR HIGH SELLER".
I loved my job and never thought it would end up like it did. I sold thousands of items, had tons of follwers and buyers requesting items weekly. One day making a good living to the next, scraping by. It happened over night, like a light switch went from on to off in a matter of seconds.
I was on Etsy for 6 years, closing shop in January, due to lack of sales because of their high demand of fees and no exposure. Etsy Tests Super Seller Badge Not Unlike eBay PowerSellers
